Episode 9: Final Victory
Discussion following the sermon from 5/26/2024
"Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war…On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords." Revelation 19:11, 16
Four Reasons To Live In Hope Today:
1. He is coming soon.
"'Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.'" Revelation 22:7
"'I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.'" Revelation 3:11
2. He destroys the enemy.
"And I saw them as they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded God’s people and the beloved city. But fire from heaven came down on the attacking armies and consumed them. Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever." Revelation 20:9-10
3. He makes everything new.
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, 'Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.' And the one sitting on the throne said, 'Look, I am making everything new!'" Revelation 21:1-5
4. We live forever in victory.
"'Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.'" Revelation 22:12-13
Episode 8: Victory From The People Pleasing Trap
Discussion following the sermon from 5/19/2024
"Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the LORD means safety." Proverbs 29:25
"My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them! They may say, 'Come and join us. Let’s hide and kill someone! Just for fun, let’s ambush the innocent! Let’s swallow them alive, like the grave; let’s swallow them whole, like those who go down to the pit of death. Think of the great things we’ll get! We’ll fill our houses with all the stuff we take. Come, throw in your lot with us; we’ll all share the loot.' …If a bird sees a trap being set, it knows to stay away. But these people set an ambush for themselves; they are trying to get themselves killed." Proverbs 1:10-14, 17-18
"'And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'" John 8:32
Six Truths To Remember:
1. Even God can't please everyone!
2. I don't need anyone's approval to be happy!
"'Your approval means nothing to me…'" John 5:41
"Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close." Psalm 27:10
3. What seems so important is only temporary.
"And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever." 1 John 2:17
"So Jesus spoke to them: “You are masters at making yourselves look good in front of others, but God knows what’s behind the appearance. What society sees and calls monumental, God sees through and calls monstrous." Luke 16:15
4. I only have to please one person!
"'I don’t try to please myself, but I only please the One who sent me.'" John 5:30
"Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant." Galatians 1:10
"Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts." 1 Thessalonians 2:4
5. One day I will give an account of my life.
"Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God." Romans 14:12
"'If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.'" Luke 9:26
6. My best is who God made me to be.
"Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you…" Romans 12:2
Episode 7: Victory Over Guilt
Discussion following the sermon from 5/12/2024
"My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear." Psalm 38:4
"Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt…" Psalm 32:2
How To Go From Guilt To Grace
1. Confess my sin to Him.
"When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, 'I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.' And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone." Psalm 32:3-5
2. Accept God's amazing grace.
God Forgives:
"You are a God of forgiveness, always ready to pardon, gracious and merciful…full of love." Nehemiah 9:17
"He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west." Psalm 103:12
"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins." Romans 3:23-24
3. Choose every day to believe what He has declared for me.
"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" 2 Corinthians 5:17
Episode 6: Victory From My Hurts
Discussion following the sermon from 5/5/2024
"Have you experienced so much for nothing? Surely it was not in vain, was it?" Galatians 3:4
How My Pain Can Be Used For A Good Purpose
1. I can use it to draw closer to God.
"We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead." 2 Corinthians 1:8-9
2. I can use it to draw closer to others.
"Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2
3. I can use it to become more like Jesus.
"And now, isn’t it wonderful all the ways in which this distress has goaded you closer to God? You’re more alive, more concerned, more sensitive, more reverent, more human, more passionate, more responsible. Looked at from any angle, you’ve come out of this with purity of heart." 2 Corinthians 7:11
4. I can use it to help others.
"He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer." 2 Corinthians 1:4-6
5. I can use it to witness to the world.
"And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News." Philippians 1:12
"That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Episode 5: Victory Over The Curse Of Comparison
Discussion following the sermon from 4/28/2024
"But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!" 2 Corinthians 10:12
"As the Scriptures say, 'If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.' When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them." 2 Corinthians 10:17-18
1. Decide who decides my worth.
"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it." Psalm 139:13-14
2. Declare my independence.
"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." Romans 12:2
3. Do to others what I want them to do to me..
"'Do to others as you would like them to do to you.'" Luke 6:31
4. Direct my steps to his purpose for me.
"So I run with purpose in every step..." 1 Corinthians 9:26
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith." Hebrews 12:1-2
Episode 4: Victory Over Loneliness
"Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, 'Sit here while I go over there and pray.' He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, 'My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.' Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.' Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. 'Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?' he asked Peter. 'Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.'" Matthew 26:36-40
How To Prepare For Victory Over Loneliness
1. Celebrate your identity in Christ.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10
2. Embrace God's authentic community.
"'For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.'" Matthew 18:20

3. Commit to serving others.
"'For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.'" Mark 10:45
"For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." Galatians 5:13
4. Secure your eternal future.
"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope." 1 Thessalonians 4:13
"'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.'" John 3:16
Episode 3: Victory Over Worry And Anxiety
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
1. Refuse to worry about anything.
"So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today." Matthew 6:34
"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." 1 Peter 5:7
2. Pray about everything.
"Never stop praying." 1 Thessalonians 5:17
3. Thank God in all things.

4. Think about good things.
"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Philippians 4:8
5. Be content with anything.
"…for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." Philippians 4:11-13
Episode 2: Victory Over Problems
"Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.” Matthew 14:22–33
1. My problems are never too big for God.
"I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?" Jeremiah 32:27
2. My problems are used by God for my growth.
"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing." James 1:2-4
3. My problems are a must for a miracle.
"So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabbi, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road." Mark 10:51-52
4. My problems will be a reason to praise God.
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28
Episode 1: The Victorious Life
"Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: 'Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?' For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:54-57
"One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own." 2 Corinthians 5:15 (MSG)
